When A Baby Is Born

When A Baby Is Born

By: Ronke Alao

It's been almost a month now since my nephew was born. We haven't had a baby in the family for so long so as you'd expect, his birth was a major news maker. I had the rare privilege of watching him come into the world and he's never ceased to amaze me since that very moment. It's so much fun just watching him sleep, feed and even sometimes wet his diaper (or my hands!). He's such a cute bundle of joy and makes me look forward to when I have my own baby.

I remember when I was a little girl. I would do anything to visit a family friend who had a baby in the house. Babies just intrigued me back then. I guess they still do.

Having a newborn in the house has given me a vivid idea of how much a baby can change your life. Even though I'm not his mom, I find myself thinking about my nephew when I'm away at work. I wonder if he's sleeping or awake.  Also, I'm getting to see how a baby can change your routine. Babies have real needs and they don't stick to anyone's routine.

Watching my sister in-law take care of him makes me appreciate my mom the more. Being a mother is obviously a round-the-clock job. I recently saw one of my friends on facebook post this quote, "the term ' a working mother' is redundant". I totally agree. I believe all moms work.

The birth of a baby is truly a miracle. It's amazing how they look like a family  member and can even have the same mannerisms as a parent. The birth of a baby also has a way of bringing people together. The fact that I've played host to my sister in-law has made us closer than I ever thought we could be. Yes, babies change lives.

Have you had a baby in the family recently? Or do you remember when you last had one? How did it change you or anything about how you view the world? Tell us about it! Leave us a comment below.

Celebrating Great Moms.
