It’s the last day of the year! Are you excited? Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and I also hope it isn’t too late to say Merry Christmas! It was a busy one for me. I can’t believe 2015 is over. It’s amazing how time seems to fly the older one gets. 2015 was a wonderful year for me mainly because my husband and I got to welcome our little princess into the world. Her conception and delivery is a miracle I will be sharing with you in the coming weeks. It’s a story of hope and faith in the face of hopelessness and doubt. It’s a year I got to know more of God’s provision and love for me and also learnt to rest in his love for me instead of striving to gain his approval.
Well, more on that later but as we wrap up this year, I want to encourage you so you know that it doesn’t matter what your 2015 may have looked like, it’s time to press on and look forward. Perhaps you recorded successes or failures, joy or sadness, progress or even stagnation; none of that matters. 2015 will roll by and be gone in a matter of hours, never to be seen again. Do not waste 2016 dwelling on the past, instead, set goals and plan what you’d like your 2016 to look like. Yes, I believe in goals and planning. Even though I’d rather shy away from putting pen to paper and setting goals, I do it.
According to one of my mentors, if you aim at nothing, you will definitely hit it (nothing). I believe having a positive expectation of good is one of the initial steps to having a victorious year. Instead of wishing for a new year without disappointments or seeming setbacks, plan to have a year in which no matter what comes your way and attempts to trump your plans, you can rise in strength and keep it moving.
If you are one that set goals in the past and didn’t accomplish any, do not be discouraged. Don’t think, “Oh, I’ve been there, done that”. Just because you didn’t hit your goals in a particular year doesn’t mean you’ve failed. Some of the goals I realized in 2015 were just goals on paper in 2014 but it happened in 2015 because I didn’t give up and I let God walk me through the dark and tough days. One of my goals in 2015 was to read the Bible through – cover to cover- and I am yet to do so but guess what, I am only two to three weeks shy of achieving that goal. I am almost done with my Bible-reading goal! I never would have come this close if I never set out to achieve it.
Your breakthrough is closer than you think and don’t forget, a new calendar is man’s idea of measuring time. Do not let it dictate your measure of joy or excitement about what God is set to do in your life.
Wishing you a happy and prosperous 2016!
